Fedem Free Edition - What is it?
Fedem Free Edition is a limited version of The Fedem Simulation Software R4.2.
The full version of Fedem is a flexible multibody dynamics package,
while the Free Edition leaves out the flexibility options, phone and mail support and a few other options.
This leaves a fully working rigid body dynamics software based on the our Generic Part technology. And you can use it for free.
Finite element part evaluation
You can not use Finite Element parts in the Free Edition, but bundeled with the Free license
there is a Demo license which makes it possible to try the flexibility options.
This license allows you to use a few small FE models,
and experience how easy it is to do real structural dynamics.
Limitations
Below is a table showing the limitations of the two licenses
Phone and mail support | Not available | Not available |
Finite Element parts | Not supported | Max 2000 nodes pr Finite Elment model Max 15000 nodes total in model |
Remote solving | Not supported | Not supported |
Available solver plattforms | Win32 only | Win32 only |
Parallell processing | Not supported | Not supported |
Commercial use | Yes | No |
Curve export | Yes | No |
Demo banners | No | Yes |
Prerequisites
Allthough you can model and solve dynamic rigid body systems without
importing anything, it is convenient to create models based on a CAD model.
You then need a CAD system that can export parts and sub assemblies to vrml files.
If you want to use FE parts under the Demo License, you need a FE-mesher that can output Nastran bulk data files.
Minimum system requirements
- Windows NT, 2000, Xp32, Xp64 or Windows Vista.
- 110 Mb of disk space
- 300 Mb RAM
- Graphics card with 3D acceleration

Get it
You can download it here.
When done, start the application and follow the instructions to get your license.
Getting started
To get up and running, you would probably want to visit http://support.fedem.com.
There you will find demo models, a tutorial, and a support forum to help you getting started.
We will get an FAQ up and running quite soon, and to supply the site with more tutorials.
